…Gary meant Harry Hogan…he never lifted that heel…
I’m not attempting to be the devils advocate, but McCord was taken out of context here, IF I recall correctly, I think he was speaking about MOG and a conversation about the role of the left foot and ankle in middle/short irons.
Hogan "rolled" the left heel up …(no left knee popping out) and he said that it is okay to let the left heel come up, just be sure the spikes go back in the same holes.
In "Power Golf" Hogan writes. "The left ankle is rolled in toward the right foot with the left heel coming off the ground only slightly."
same action as nicklaus , just a little less of it
Gary has maybe made a slight mistake, but is it necessary to treat the man in that way? Respect in the game of golf has always been in the forefront. Did you forget that?
Gary McCord is the WORST golf announcer on TV… Look how he sticks HIS FOOT in his mouth all the time. FIRE GARY McCORD !
Well done , Thanks for the research .
Look at the injuries the players are having that swing around their torsos, and barely move their lower body. Much of this craziness has been brought about by people who never studied Hogan, or anyone else much for that matter. Just because you raise your left heel on the backswing does not mean you're automatically going to sway.
It's a very dangerous swing, and death on the back and hips, not to mention the front ankle.
i looked all over for golf shoes with an extra spike in the right shoe, without any success. then the solution suddenly came to me. just simply take a spike out of my left shoe.
Hogan is quoted as saying he did'nt think about his left heel at all in the swing.
It is true that Hogans left heel came up less as his swing evolved. Though clearly it still comes up but more of a roll then a straight lift.
Amazing how this BS has been accepted by would be greats for the past 20 years or so. Do the people who put this garbage out believe Nicklaus or Palmer…would have been better had they kept their left heels on the ground? Exactly. Go Bubba!
I sense a shift in the wind against the pathetic golf industry instruction of the past 30 years, which is a great thing for the human body. Hate to be negative but I'm seeing how this might play out. The mindless lemmings that "teach" will simplistically say "lift your front heel" and all hell will break loose.
Gary can really fill up a room….a big room.
Go grow a mustache Gary……
another brilliant one.. thanks for sharing. your knowledge about mr hogan's timeline is outstanding. and i am stunned to know that mr. hogan's swing was more compact in the beginning of 40s and became looser. more swinging rather than hitting. totally opposite to my previouse belief.
Leo Tostoy: “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.”
If Youtube was around during that time back then McCord wouldn't say such a stupid thing.
Loving it….
