This 9-wood vs 5-hybrid video features a comparison of a PING G430 Max 9-wood and a PING G430 5-hybrid. More and more golfers today are being fit into high-lofted fairway woods, such as a 7-wood or a 9-wood, in 2nd Swing Tour Van fittings than ever before. But why is that? Should you be playing a 9-wood?

great information but he is much better than most golfers. Sadly I can never find these in left hand on 2nd Swing unless I'm buying new.
Wanted a 9-wood for long shots to greens due to the stopping power, but there are no good deals on a 9-wood with stiff shaft. The 3-4 yards extra roll out with the 5h is not that big of a deal and the dispersion seemed to be better.
Wow 200+ with a 5 hybrid !! Most of us normal golfers get that with a driver 🙈 be nice to get a mid handicapper testing those clubs please ❤
The difference between the two is much smaller than I though. 9w is a tiny bit longer and a 3yds shorter rollout. Basically a tossup.
are these supposed to play the same distance? I have both of them in my bag
Why do you have a low handicap hit this comparison? Means nothing for slower swing golfers which comprise a majority of the market for a 9 wood.
Is it better to deloft a 5 or strengthen the loft on a 7 ? Like if the 5 is 19 and the 7 is 21 and im looking for a 20 on my club.
It’s a complete waste of time having someone swing these clubs 100 mph. Get someone who can swing 65 75 80 at the very most to model these clubs and what they do.
Four hybrid is the equivalent club to the 9 metal, not 5 hybrid. I carry both the 5 hybrid and 9 wood. I have exactly 10 yards difference between the two. Also ball and shaft choice are a huge part of this equation. Low spin balls don’t match well with these Ping hybrids.
Great test, thanks.
I play 5, 7, 9, and 11 woods……..piece of cake
I have a crusty old LaJolla Knife steel 9 hybrid. 26 degrees Reg. flex. Longer shaft than my 3h. I only used it in deep rough. I am now working it into more (normal) use. I like it. I can even get a bit more distance than my 3h (190 – 210). I'm 65 but still swing 95+ mph. Go figure. It has 3 (fins/ribs) on the sole. google a pic. Loving this thing.
How would the 5 Hybrid compare to a 5 Wood?
Titleist TSR2 5 wood, TSR1 9 wood and TSi1 5 hybrid.
I love both woods and hybrids. I hit them both with the same consistency.
Yep I have a 3w 4hi 9wood and 6hi irons start at 7. Game changer for a new golfer. Woods and hi are much easier
Complete waste of time having players who can easily cream the ball straight and long.
Put an average player on it and see if the can be consistent and increase “their” length. Not that of the Pros……
Great vid guys! I love seeing Jake on the videos he has excellent insight and love when he is demoing the clubs!
Wood is longer and the shaft is lighter. Not a great apples to apples. How about just swap the same shaft into each?
Does Cobra make a 9 wood with the T-Rail format?
Carry 4 wood 7wood 9wood a 6hybrid working good for me
My 5h is 26 degrees and my 9 wood is 24 degrees and a couple inches longer. IMO it’s closer to a 4h but great comparison 👍
Speaking as a very bad player with an astronomical handicap I love the woods they just fit my game and swing path. I just picked up a 9 wood after struggling with the hybrids for a while and it is night and day for me. I'm seriously considering getting an 11 wood too 😂 For me the woods are just way more consistent and they are a great safety net in that they launch like crazy even if you barely swing with them plus the larger head just adds that extra bit of security even though thats probably all memtal.
Very good video. I just purchased a ping 7 wood from you, and it's becoming my favorite club.
