So glad I found your site, Jay. Congratulations, this had to be one of the most informative for golfers on YouTube. I was almost in despair as I can’t seem to escape from Takomo’s merciless saturation advertising. My question is how much difference do you think it really makes out on the course between a G400 to the G440? So, I’m a 7 marker. I’ve been as low as four when my body didn’t hurt so much. I’m not one who gets taken by hype so still using MP-57s. While it will upset a lot of people, the reality is a seven marker doesn’t know how to play golf properly. I don’t find the middle of the club anywhere near as often as I should, I hit a damn snap hook at least once a round and I just get it around and depend on a half decent short game. I don’t pretend I need Pro V1s at my standard of play like some twenty markers. Would I really notice any difference in my scores if I used G400s instead of G440s?

This is fantastic data. I knew there were some improvements year over year but this is by far the most detailed comparison of this series of irons. It is tough to get a lot of other YouTubers to dive into this many older generations since manufacturers do not like to talk about prior products since that does not make them money. Thank you for taking the time to do this as well as all your other club data videos!

Outstanding video. Currently, play G400, but purchased set of Mizuno hot metal XL. More consistent with Mizuno and wonderful feel. Haven’t taken to the course because I got pneumonia the day Mizuno’s arrived. 2 weeks ago.

@NayrbSG says:

Bought G5s back in 2005. Nothing has changed since.

@stevehenson3325 says:

They haven’t made anything unique since the square groove

@counselor5286 says:

answer to your question is YES we are

@19rosscoe61 says:

I used to have a set of the Ping I3+ irons and loved them. The only thing I didn’t care for was the elastomer badge on the back. Lots of older Pings had these and if they fall off you could replace them via Ping. Now you can’t because they don’t make them anymore and they are all different weights.

Hi Jay, great and informative video as always, but I wonder if when you calculated the %drop on off centre strikes I assume your value was a %age drop for each club. That is useful but as a comparison against others it may also be misleading. For a G440 with a better middle strike for distance etc than the others, a drop off in off centre strikes in yds may be less than for the others whilst as a %age of the G440 it is higher.

@Dzjur. says:

If the face speed of the g440 has increased, at what distance from the sweet spot does it cross its predecessors for the worse. Your forgiveness numbers are percentages, not absolutes, so it might still be better from an off center hit than the g400 in an absolute sense (the only thing that matters as far as I'm concerned), despite itbeing less percentually consistent.

@niguel4438 says:

Yes and willingly so. All golfers are mugs for the next gadget. Just add X to anything and we’ll but it. Add X 321s and it’s orgasmic!!

@mikebuckson says:

I'm currently playing 88 Wilson Staffs to a plus 3 hdcp. New irons do nothing for me.

@TedCatchpole says:

What about the g25s

@BrD4GOD says:

As a G Series 2016 owner I would've loved to see those here for curiosity sake.
People here are saying they were just as good as any of these. I wonder if it would benefit me to upgrade at all.

@ronniecampbell4375 says:

The manufacturers have to change the appearance a little to cater to people who buy new clubs every year or two .IMO, ping could have stopped with the i3 series irons.

@mikebarnard2689 says:

Really interesting stuff here, I’d love to know how the last of the Eye2s would fare with forgiveness relative to the G series
Fascinating ( but I’m a nerd ).

@mikebarnard2689 says:

The LST version of the G400 driver maxed out every legal parameter back in the day.
Anything after that is simply giving you more on a mishit.

@Abuelo-oq2tm says:

Thank you, I still play the I10 irons and was thinking about finding a set of the g400

@graemeeamens9891 says:

I have had a lot of models incl ISI, G5, G30, G and G425. I found the G425 was heavy and harder to hit well and prefer the G model as the easiest to hit, and very similar to the G30 in terms of ease of use.

@dg70205 says:

Have stuck with the g400’s for years. Tried the newer ones and hated them. Too light

@crispyduck1706 says:

These Pings clubs apart from the 440 are ugly looking

Whilst it’s not a Beauty content aesthetically a club has to deliver

@darrinlygrisse5287 says:

The iron before the G400 the “G” was so forgiving. Wish you would have included it. I went from it to the G425 and hated them. Now using the G430 and really liking them. Enough height, spin and forgiveness for me, at least up to the 6 iron.
