For decades, golfers around the world have studied and attempted to emulate Ben Hogan's golf swing. A lot has been written about his move, even from the man himself, but what is the secret to one of the greatest swings in golf history? Our very own Luke Kerr-Dineen is here to help.

Your accent is so grating. Just talk with a normal English accent 😢
I figured it out, after 25 years… no kidding, 50 years and found the swing, that allow me to swing like a pro
Something else that is quit disingenuous you need to know that is the opposite of steel shafted clubs like Hogan used: With wood shafts you use a lot of hands and wrists. You stay connected with your leading shoulder. There are some other nuances that are reversed but these are some of the big ones.
The older generation they cite with Bobby Jones was wood shafts.
Such a good video 🎉
You lose me at “some of it”.
Some time ago I decided that I should weaken my grip, at least with the driver so I could really release the club and not hook it. Like the narrator said though, you never like changing your grip. So instead I just opened the face a few degrees, and gripped it as I normally did. That was my secret, but I wouldn’t advise doing unless you know the hows and whys.
I think we should relax with the nostalgia and big'ing up the old heros. I don't for a second believe that Hogan was the best ever ball striker. Not by a long shot. He was just the first great one and the best at HIS TIME. All players on tour today are most likely better ball strikers than Hogan was. There are millions more golfers today with infinitely more advanced training, slomo high res cameras in their pockets and free tutorials on youtube by the world's best instructors. Budgets are monstrous making thousands upon thousands of amazing ball strikers pursue professional careers. Same goes for most other things. Teenagers today pull skateboard tricks that were legendary in the 90s, like they are nothing. Snowboarders today do tricks unthinkable 25 years ago. In every single larger soccer league there are players miles better than Pelé ever was.
Hogan was not double jointed in both thumbs. That is total horseshit.
Started reading his Five Lessons book tonight 👌🏽
Don't forget his clubs were unlike any others. Set up extremely flat and wide open.
Yet another phenomenal video my friend 🎉
Why that stupid noise in the background. I can't listen to this! Can you put it up again without the background noise?
This guy is an idiot and should have been fired after this.
You have dig it out of the ground. -That was Ben Hogan’s individual lesson plan for every golfer, for all times. Thank you, Ben Hogan
Hogan’s swing help generate a slicer?..BS!..This swing is paramount for accurate aim and distance!
What a numpty. Check out Sam Snead's grip. It's the same as Hogan's.
Nation of slicers because of Ben Hogan? Codswallop.
You should use your hands and wrists as much as possible.
Ben Hogan's Swings Are Insane! ⛳ 🔥
Are you trying to tell us the size of a grip determines orientation of hands? Really. Brother, just give up.
Hogan’s secret was turning his shoulders more vertically along the target line through impact. Everything else he did – forward b.p., trailing elbow, closed (Driver) stance, etc. were just devices that created it. His individual tendencies for down-cocking in transition, open shoulders at impact, and resulting hooking issues created the need to develop devices. See? You might consider leaving the causal chain to the only one who knows where it begins.
I can’t hit my driver with a weak
Grip at all lol
he did not say ..he had "a feeling of 3 righthands" …he just said.. hit it hard with Both hands…..you cant play golf its obvious to me…😬he weakened his left hand as many or most people have…..he shut the weak left hand to square the club in the downswing..the cupping at the top is pretty much irrelevant.
It’s the placement of the club in the left hand that destroyed many swings – designed to prevent hooks, most golfers need to draw the ball.
very easy. the real secret is to start your back swing form the final impact position. this way the club face stays square. and gotta learn how to putt too.
His arms were so long. I'm not gonna even try. I do love the classic golf swing.
It is advisable to learn solid fundamentals. We also need to practice correctly. Solid fundamentals + correct practice = better golf. There are no shortcuts, even for gifted athletes.
Hogan was my idol growing up I was obsessed with golf. As a junior I would hit shots off of dirt infields. It made my ball striking better than most!
Ben did what everybody should do: He found what worked for him. In every interview Moe did, he said he did just that. Why try to be Ben Hogan, or Nicklaus or Snead, or Moe any number of players you could name? Be yourself. That's what Moe said to do and he was right.
The YT teachers (well-meaning though they may be) and your buddies will tell you "you gotta do such-and-such." But who exactly is the deity who said "thou shalt swing thy club as thus, lest ye be tormented"? Is that in the Bible somewhere or what? WHO said you HAVE to swing the club with XY&Z or else? Swing the club in such a way that gets you the trajectory and distance you need, while being repeatable.
After months of fatting, thinning and shank hooking all over the creation, I started doing my own thing which keeps the club face square the entire time. It looks almost childish, like you would imagine a 4-year-old swinging. But dang if the ball doesn't go arrow straight every shot with no less power or distance than when I hit a good conventional swing. This method, however, I can do consistently. I can't swing like anybody but myself, and neither can anybody else. So just don't try it.
