In Part 2 of my driver lesson with PGA coach Liam Robinson, we finally moved on from fixing drills and got into the good stuff — learning how to hit 350+ yard drives while still keeping the ball in play.

After correcting my mistakes in Part 1, I could instantly feel the difference in my swing. Liam showed me how to combine the power moves needed for distance with the control needed for accuracy off the tee. It wasn’t just about swinging harder — it was about the right sequence, timing, and technique.

Here’s what I learned in this session:

How to generate more clubhead speed without losing balance

The small setup tweaks that help keep drives straighter

Why accuracy and distance work together, not against each other

The mental approach to committing to a big drive with confidence

By the end of the lesson, I was hitting it longer and finding more fairways — a combination every golfer wants. If you’re chasing long, straight drives, this session is packed with takeaways.

I do like Liams ability to spot the root causes and quickly advise on how to address them. So refreshing to see an instructor who understands you must start with a move away from the target to be able to move back into it in the transition. The hip move away is so important. The keeping the chest high in the kove away is do important to give you that initial room to swing back. You need that space.

Love how the beeps don’t cover the swear words 🤣

@msendowski says:

James are you throwing your arms from the top or turning your hips thank you.

@garywheeler2128 says:

He’s only coach that has massively improved my swing . Well it wasnt a swing. No flow. I was full of tension . Steering the club. Now I’m swinging freely , hitting the ball like a rocket . He’s the only one worth watching. , all these ridiculous contorted positions these coaches trying to get you into just ends up making you so restricted , your swing will go nowhere unless you’re an athletic pro. Watch Liams’s videos and free yourself up.

I'm sure Scotty Sheffler has his left foot slightly behind his right, definitely with driver, and possibly with irons as well

@aaronjeffries3383 says:

Just play it with the right foot back.

@jeremydomin7671 says:

He won’t play with the foot back because of ego.

@philipchan1856 says:

Very generous of James and Liem to share this invaluable tip$ online. 👍🏼

@oceanyt8 says:

I suppose the driver head went slightly infront. You can't move to front even though the head still behind the ball..

@golfnff says:

Hogan figured that out a long time ago mate. Since we are hitting more level to up depending on chs dropping the foot back neutralizes that shift of path left 😉👍🏽

@philipchan1856 says:

James, if you throw the club at 1 o’clock position, it will eliminate the hook.

@dealscale says:

You got to hammer it in near the top of the swing with left leg compression.

Too much chatting…

Dude is gasping for air while he’s talking

Let’s remember shall we James, together. Your audience is a bunch of arthritic individuals, teenagers and possibly women. You’re in your prime enjoying the fruits of these years. Quit trying to tell us we can hit 300 yd drives.

@shonuDhamey says:

I think everybody wants to hit it on that spot rather than the distance- and in order to achieve that based on their physicality and the nature of their athletic-self they approach with swings that "should" suit their physical nature. James is tall so his approach doesn't really apply to me or anybody that is 5'8".

@blueeyes6192 says:

I decided to choke down on driver with a narrower stance and it’s my new fairway finder avg 230-240 yards with lower dispersion compared to standard grip . 😂

@gregorybolin4672 says:

Chris Kirk tempo there

@mattdipadua3614 says:

Would this work for a slower slicer also

@FeelGoodGolf says:

I’ve played a lot of Golf with Liam over the years and used to travel with him and play events around Europe. He’s a top guy and is genuinely one of the best ball strikers I’ve played with.

@Smudge002 says:

James, when making swing changes how do you put it into your game so fast? When I make changes I get the reps in I go to the range but on course it’s like I can’t hit a ball, I then go back to my old swing just to get around the course. Any tips?

@gordonwood1594 says:

"If you were to drop your toe back no one would even know you were doing it" As if he should be embarrassed?
