I just had a short game lesson with a DP World Tour player, and what he showed me completely changed how I set up to the golf ball. My setup and strike around the greens instantly improved — and it might do the same for you.

In this video, I break down exactly what I learned during the lesson, how it improved my contact and consistency, and how you can apply these short game setup tips to your own game.

If you’ve been struggling with chunked chips, thin strikes, or just can’t find that solid contact around the greens, this one will really help.

⛳️ What’s inside:

The setup change that transformed my short game

Key differences between pros and amateurs around the greens

Simple adjustments for better strike and spin

Real on-course examples from the lesson

You seriously need a decent coach as at the moment you look all at sea! Enough waffling on about what changes you have made, you need to walk the walk mate! Let's see some results!

Great advice James. Enjoy your content and dedication. You are teaching me a lot. Thanks. Neal

Tried this today through 18 after just 10mins of the practice green. After 3 chips on the prw tice green I knew I will be using this from now on. Absolute winner. Used down to an 8 iron on the course and it works great. I didn't open the face as much as you appear to, so was getting more chip and runs than flop and stops, but for first round with it, I am really stoked. Didnt duff a single one all day. Seems even easier than toe down chipping, especially if there is fringe to get over. Winner mate, thanks for the great lesson. Good luck to you out there chap!

Yes – great instructional video. I need the courage to move the ball from inside back to inside front! I have sternum forward so I get decent results. But would love a bit more forgiveness, which would come from moving the ball up and practising.

I’m a lefty that plays righty, putt LBR, and have messed with LBR short game a good few times .
Biggest change I feel is super upright shaft and ball leaves face with true loft and good spin.
I do feel you can fake the LBR with a conventional grip by lifting right shoulder high and arching hands to get more upright.
Good luck hope you get the confidence to use whatever works.

Still using bunker technique Liam showed you?

@FatihPekbas says:

Great video mate. Thos bunker shots were tasty. However, how do you not hit the ball clean in the bunker with the sternum so much in front.

@guitarsandgolfballs says:

Could you not practice in a pressure situation, like against another golfer or making a hundred up and downs, because this is when it fails.
You have a great channel which relates to real golf.

@bitobscured says:

I mean it looks very unnatural but if it works for you then why not. I think it's over complicated for what it is vs conventional and I think it kinda contradicts liams style of dynamic anything goes kinda movement etc since this is like the complete opposite of that and fully robotic (just a vibe I got no evidence). If you were outside the range of cack handed by a meter for example then you would apply conventional style and have to face the reality of chipping normally with the same consequences. Just feels like the investment is more valuable applying the 1 convention of standard everywhere.

James, seeing that you are open to new swings. I would absolutely love if you tried The JuJu Swing, and let me know your thoughts. Looks a lot like a Matthew wolf swing but the guy who teaches it really does an amazing job. Someone with your swing speed I genuinely think it will be a perfect match

@brianmurray4199 says:

Keep grinding the short game mate. As much as we love the Wiltshire wedge from 40yds. We want to watch you succed

@primafacie6442 says:

Was Rick Shiels not available for short game coaching?😂 Are those beautiful lilac trees in the background James?

@martynzl says:

It's not technique its anxiety. I could provide 3 or 4 of your chipping videos that are almost carbon copies of this one.

@rodneyblackwell2557 says:

Reading the comments there are a lot of people hoping you can gain confidence in your chipping. A lot also can identify with the pain of the journey. Jumping around with definite techniques etc.

I have been spending time with an older single figure HCP to help me. For sure I can chip really well on the practice green and anything can happen on the course.

So we have set realistic goals. At this stage our aim is to give yourself a putt. No more than 2 duffs per round. I am not going to throw away what I am working on just because of one duff.

After a duff I ask myself how did i fail to commit.
