So are the 9 woods only available in womens shafts?
My first club I bought as a brand new player was an 11 wood. It is still my most used club because when it comes down to it I can place the ball where I want within a 20 foot range. I've came so close to making a few hole in ones on par 3's with it that it's now just a matter of time. One of them ended up on the lip and that was in my first year. I've gotten a few birdies because of it. I will always have an 11 wood in my bag. I get some strange looks but the few times when someone has tried it out there was an almost magical glow fill their eyes. The realization that it lands exactly where you want it nearly every time all the time. Best club by far. Second best was my 9 hybrid.
I got a ram 60 and lost it, now have a 56 ram. Amazon 36 quid. Yes 36 thirty six quid. Buy it try it whatโs to loose. I love mine did I say 36 quid
Use whatever clubs make it easier. Drop your ego to help you drop shots/handicap.
I am a high swing speed player and got some clubs that people at my swing speed wouldn't play.
Driver-5.5*
Mini driver-11.5*
5 wd-17*
7 wd-22.5*
9 wd-27* (female head,stiff shaft)
13 wd 31* old school 2004 callaway. Then 7-lw and a beautiful forgiving putter. Lab df 2.1(custom).
My next move is to get more forgiving wedges like edison wedges. Right now playing tm high toe.
1. Got rid of my 9 wood but still have a 7 and 2 hybrids after. I also usually have a higher lofted 3 or a 4 wood instead.
2. Definitely have a chipper in the bag, but haven't been pulling it out as much
3. Never really did the broomstick thing. I do have a center shafted mallet putter I used to great success though. Even then, the putter I did best with before was a center shaft and not a super popular brand (at the time; Wilson has definitely picked back up).
4. My wedges as a whole are a lot more for forgiving now (cavity backs, either Callaway or Cleveland).
5. Like I said, 2 hybrids. I can't swing the 5 iron the distance I want, so I have a 4 iron and 5 iron hybrid (I think the lofts are closer to a 5 and 6 but my current irons have the 6 iron in there right now).
I have most of these clubs. I need the bunker wedge to have all of them. I rarely have an issue in the bunker though.
I was gone once you talked about the putter. DUMB.
I added a eraser to my bag itโs changed my game ๐๐๐
Is the Ram EZ Out similar to the Cleveland CBX SW, or more similar to the Cleveland Smartsole SW? Thanks
Great advice!!!
Broomstick = I can't putt (see: Adam Scott). No putter handle should go beyond a golfer's wrists. Ridiculous these are allowed.
I use a 7w, 9w and 11w. Regular flex shafts. They replaced my 3i, 4i and 5i. Silly easy to launch.
Iโd love to try a broomstick especially as a taller player. The only issue is that nowhere near me offers them so I canโt even try one out before I buy ๐
Excellent presentation with very good points.
My tools are now fixed after 24 years of golf. Iโm 75 yo, avg 88 ( no handicapโฆIโm counting every shots playing the white tees ( 5,800 avg ).
Ping G400 Max driver 10.5* ( canโt find anything better still )
Callaway 3w HL smoke
Callaway 7 w smoke
4h Ping g425 or 11w Callaway smoke ( depending on types of courses )
6-Aw( gap) HL irons Callaway smoke
Cleveland 52-60* (14) CB4
Cleveland full face 2 for my 56* at 12 bounce (14 of bounce I think this was a mistake for the CB4 from Cleveland)
Putter Scotty Cameron X5 Phantom ( Lamkin grip-straight)
Happy golfing everyone
ErEf, Montreal, Canada
You only get 14 clubs so when you add you have to subtract
12:20 The squirrel agrees too ๐
Try finding a 9 Wood for left-handed golfers here in the U.S.!
5 & 7 fairways woods is great assets for any club golfers ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ
I love golf review videos, but particularly for the 9-wood and hybrid set portions, Iโm not sure how the review benefits the golfers the video is said to be aimed at. High handicappers like me have imperfect, inconsistent swings, so when the reviewer delivers a text book strike and hits a 7-iron 180 yards, that tells me nothing about how it will perform in my hands. My view would be that if a review promises clubs that deliver for a high handicapper, an actual high handicapper should be involved, either as a colleague of the reviewer or, heck, even invite one from the course the review is being recorded at. I know Iโd jump at the chance.
JOE the PRO…heard your voice and I thought you were on DHG….good seeing you, your information/ how you framed it/ demonstrated the equipment with impressive proficiency.
Great advice as usual Joe. ๐
I just added a seven wood /4 hybrid along with a armlock putter. Love the four hybrid as my chipper because it is the same length as my putter.
Funny but these things aren't just for high handicappers. I have a 7 wood (not quite 9 wood yet, but only because I like my 24 degree hybrid). A Chipper (Cleveland Smart Sole Chipper). A Broomstick putter (I have used a sternum putter for almost 30 years now and, no, I never anchored it so I didn't have to change). And, lastly, the Eleven hybrid irons (I had a thumb injury last year and had to wear a brace on my left hand so I needed a ton of bounce due to a shallow attack angle needed because of the brace so I bought these…now the injury is healed but I loved them so much, I kept them in the bag). The only one of these things I don't have is a specialty sand wedge. My handicap index is a 4 so, again, these things are not just for high handicappers!! There is nothing better than the look on a golfer's face when he/she gets beat by someone with "hacker clubs" in their bag. Use whatever makes the game easier.
I personally have RAM wedges, bought them as a set on amazon, havent had issues with them. Reasonably cheap, would be class if hopefully you can test and give us your professional feedback?
What are the differences between a #5 hybrid iron and a 9 wood? Which one is better for high handicappers?
All good arguments and I totally agree, unfortunately I think the big companies have done too good a job in the marketing department ๐ I'm a 7.9 HCP and I've seriously considered the eleven hybrids. I already got a 3-5 which I absolutely love.
