Every Ping iron has a coloured dot on the hosel, but what does this mean?

The Ping Colour Code system is all about helping you get the right lie angle for your game. So what are the different colour options and which one is right for you?

It’s not just about height. It’s more about arm length and leg length compared to overall height and wrist to floor and if you’re a sweeper (flat swing plane coming into the ball) or a digger (steep swing plane coming into the ball) and also swing speed and shaft used (slow swing speeds don’t cause shaft deflection as much and stiffer shafts don’t as well) also not as much shaft deflection on wedges as long irons and woods etc etc. Lie boards are usually raised up and give inaccurate results unless carefully configured. Ball flight is ideal as an indicator but only with very consistent swings thus only better ball strikers need use this method. For beginners or intermediate players best to just use the wrist to floor and if you’re a digger or a sweeper method while you improve your swing.. then fine tune. ..imho.

This is bad advice. I’m 6’1” and play the Brown 3 degree flat irons. It’s based on your own swing. I’m an old school flatter swing plane, not the dreaded upright swing they have been pushing for 40-50 years now!

@garylawrence7547 says:

You’re dealing with multiple compound angles when analyzing lie angles, face loft, shaft angle at address, shaft angle at impact. Much to consider.

@johnnyracks says:

Stick to black dot unless you play blades or are very low handicap. Cavity players are too inconsistent for a different dot to really help. One day the ball is off the heel, next its off the toe. Its a neat system but correcting a swing is key.

@CPBuilds says:

I'm 6'6" and according to the chart I'm right at the intersection of white/silver ad +1.5" in length. BUT….huge but…..with my stance and how my arms hang I actually hit standard length and I'm orange (-2 flat). Standard, black dot, has my shots going left and off the toe. Red, -1 flat, brought my desperation closer to center and my strikes closer to the middle of the face. Then I had the guy put me in orange and that gave me the best turf interaction and brought my desperation closer to center and my strikes were pretty much dead center on the face. Guy said he never seen anything like that. I just laughed and ordered my i530's in orange with retro spec. Good times.

Great video

Hannah thank you so much for this episode. I’ve been swinging Ping irons and never knew and always wondered what the different colored dots were I knew it had to be with a way they measured the differences between the clubs but what that spec was I had zero idea. Thank you for the education I’ve subscribed and turned in the notification bell I look forward to more great content.
Keep on girl! 👍🏻

I really couldn’t care less about anything.

Keen analysis Maxwell. 🙄

I’m 6-3 and just got fitted with a 1-inch longer red dot iron set. Tried them on the course for the first time the other day and DAMN did I have more distance and straighter shots than I’ve ever had.

@donsloan2075 says:

Nice review and great idea to try the opposite end of the fitting spectrum to see how far off it would send your ball. Subscribing now.

As an American. Not use to English ladies. She's cool. And pretty cute. Respectfully

@nupezb says:

Great video. I’m considering getting my lie angle adjusted now.

My wedges are different colour to irons , 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@allenparker2690 says:

This is an awesome video with GREAT information. Thank you

@kenco3370 says:

Does anyone know how to get a colour code for a ping g15 driver,the shaft is worn a little bit need to spray it thanks

@adimperial says:

Now I’m confused. He demonstrates a club being too flat but he says the toe would dig in. Isn’t that too uptight?

@pauladickerson6082 says:

Is there a separate ping color chart for women and men?

@sevesellors2831 says:

Great review Hannah I’ve just tried the G430 and fitted with white dot. Ping certainly know how to do a fitting which is probably why I’ve had more Ping sets than any other brand.

@ianhoskin4033 says:

Loved the video, very informative and will follow you now (I subscribed). Just wondering if shaft length make a difference to the required lie set up? Most retailers offer differing lengths and graphite are longer than steel. Could you possibly cover that at some stage… The winter is fading and I am keen to get back on the course and practice bay.

@midlifebiker7424 says:

Chart for me is blue but I bought 2nds (i200s) in green and they are fine. I have a wedge in white too and again fine. I know there is merit in fitting but the cost is very exsy and we dont play off flat boards, its uneven grass. Not a fan of the colour system.

@stupup74 says:

I’ve been fitted twice and both times I felt like I’ve been fit for irons too upright for me both times. I feel like sometimes hitting the board causes me to come in too steep.

@jadesmith6823 says:

5"11 & 34"?

@LiverpoolRules4Ever says:

Ping irons… untouchable.. absolutely brilliant!
