For me irons feel easier to shape and manipulate, where hybrids come into their own is playing from the rough.

@MSDOGS1976 says:

I carry 4,5 and 6 hybrids and 7-s/w irons. Also have a chipper but I’m an old geezer so I can get away with it. 😉

@donmcknight5273 says:

I got the 5 through gap. I went 3 and 4 hybrid. I need that iron for more options out of weird spots. I love that 5 iron. It is great😊

@kirriegolf18 says:

really good informative video, which I completely agree with. I have Ping G410 5 hybrid, my lowest iron is 6 iron.
So much easier to hit, especially from fluffy lie,

@EannMcCullough says:

Yep,, a 195 carry with that low height is not adding up. Does not work that way. You got something off there. You would need to be swinging that thing mid 90 mph to do that and you are not really even close to that , what is going on ?

@EannMcCullough says:

190 with the 5 with your swing speed. That seems quite amazing.

@leospaceman2976 says:

How are you getting about 205 carry with a 5h swinging at like 80-85mph? Is the spin fairly low?

@cajunx1113 says:

Great review, and recommendations for hybrid use!

@stevemcnally5126 says:

Don't know why this vid has just popped up last year I bought the 525's irons 5i to PW with a 3 & a 4 hybrid.

@fraserbott6940 says:

I’ve got the i525’s 5i-PW but also carry a G425 5h.

The iron is better of the tee or 1st cut/rough but the hybrid is sometimes nicer off a tight fairway lie.

Also the hybrid flies higher so not great into wind. Iron every time when it’s straight into wind.

@brycepalmer4061 says:

1. You turned the i525 video into a hybrid vs long iron video. I learned more about the hybrid than anything but the 5 iron while it's labeled "i525"
2. They are like 20 yards difference so why wouldn't you put both in the bag?

@scottmartin6159 says:

I have a set of the i525's (4-pw). I have been looking for a club that I could easily hit 200 yards and a surprise to me was that I found with the i525 4 iron. This iron is super easy to hit and a lot easier to control than a hybrid. I am a 5 hcp, but like most golfers, I have always struggled with long irons. I totally agree with video in the fact that the average golfer will probably do better with a hybrid, but for me it is super exciting to know that I have found my 200 yard club.

@jj-pi9cu says:

They're referred to as 'game-improvement irons' for a reason. Practice is also required

@nicklewis6042 says:

Mate this is great advice. Just been fitted for some Cobra Forged tech irons. Found that the new PW goes 15 yds longer than my old PW so have put a 2nd gw in. Also the 6 iron goes as far as my old 5 iron so 6 to hybrid is perfect gapping. Sorry if my typing is a bit off but I've just won the monthly stableford so I'm a bit pissed!!!😀

@craigsigley856 says:

Helpful video thanks. But….! I need to know what shoes/boots you are wearing… 🙏🏻

@fairwayfinder18 says:

I think I would rather have both the iron and the hybrid to have the choice. I play all my golf on links and the hybrid just stalls into the wind whereas I can punch out the 5 iron a lot lower. Downwind then yes the hybrid is my choice.

@swisstrader says:

This is brilliant, cuz it’s EXACTLY what I’ve just done after a fitting for the 525’s w a Ping rep. Told the rep I wanted to replace my 5 iron w a ping hybrid because I’ve just lost a lot of confidence in my long irons. He and I go back and forth w different hybrid combinations and in the end, we actually got rid of BOTh my 5 and my 6 iron and replaced them w hybrids.

So much easier to hit the hybrids

@stevemcvay2220 says:

In my mind the gaping is rather good to keep the 5 and the hybrid. It’s not just distance, it’s the shot shape you need while playing. Getting under a tree or wanting to run a ball up vs dropping it on the green. I like to have both choices.

@purpleroadster7306 says:

I hate to say it but this guy just sold me on a hybrid hahaha I like to think I can hit my 4i 230 but it rarely works

@grousgrek6560 says:

Why would u carry a 5 iron and 5 hybrid ? Choke down on a 4 hybrid there built for high launch.

@leeloopatsy says:

Ok but still there is something I don’t understand. When I started golf 34 years ago I had a 3 and a 4 in my bag. My dad who was born in 1918 had a 2 and a 1 iron in his bag.
Every year brands come with new clubs that are faster, go longer, are more forgiving than ever etc…
Therefore how come people can’t play anymore with anything below 6 so they need an hybrid.
Com-on there is something wrong somewhere if you could see my dads irons (his last bag of clubs was bought in 1959) that were some sort of mini blades though it didn’t stop him making pars and birdies.
Sometimes I wonder what the 30’s and 50’s champions would score today. Probably only eagles and birdies.

@rajivkotwal says:

Very useful information. thank you

@paullabriola2324 says:

I’m not average

@michaeln5323 says:

Ive been very happy with my 4-U Wedge set I purchased. I was looking at either picking ups the 3 Iron or a 2 Hub rid but I just can't get rid of my old and trusty Ping Eye 2 1 iron. my gaping is perfect up to the 4 iron and I find Im hitting g these irons about 15 yards farther than my last set. y 4 iron I average about 220 and Im hitting about 90% straight within a few yards of center. These are probably the easiest long irons I have every hit. The Ping Eye 1 iron has been re shafted and a jumbo grip and hit it 230-250 depending on its needs. its followed by the Ping G425 3 wood that's averaging 235-245. Ping has hit the mark with these irons and I haven't hit a set this good in years. At 50 I'm starting to really enjoy this game again after playing for almost 40 years.

@jeffmasson4171 says:

Exactly what I have in my bag i525 6-pw then g425 5&4 hybrids works a dream

@sdiver68 says:

I have both 5i and 5h in my bag but rarely pull out the 5h. I generally find the 5i more confidence inspiring except on thin, hard lies. In those situation, I typically use a choked up 4h. Plus, the 5i is my keep it low under trees escape club. Have to admit, when I started this video I thought you were going to say 3h, 4h, G425 5-6, and 525 7-W.

@derekwhyle1884 says:

I’ve always considered the mid irons to be 5,6&7. Short irons are 8,9& wedge and long irons are 3 downwards. I’ve been using a callaway dcb 4 iron this year for forgiveness but that’s probably being replaced by a hybrid soon. It’s not the number on the club it’s the loft of modern clubs that’s the issue with 5 irons now having 4 iron loft.
