How do you move the hips in the golf swing and how do you move them when you struggle with a lack of flexibility?

Learning how to rotate your hips properly in the golf swing is so important if you what to create a coordinated golf swing that generates effortless power.

A recent online student of Danny Maude had more moving parts than a Swiss swatch! But this was only because his body was having to compensate and make up for poor hip movement. The result was a golf swing that produced a lot of inconsistency.

Using the golf drill Danny's about to share with you he said;

“I've never felt that before…the whole swing just feels so much easier”

In this golf lesson Danny Maude will show you how to use the hips in the backswing to make a fuller turn and then show you step by step how you can begin to clear the hips in the downswing.

It's not about turning you into a PGA Tour player and getting you to move like Dustin Johnson or Rory Mcilroy. Instead it's about helping you unlock a little more rotation in your golf swing so you that you can achieve a more effortless and consistent golf swing

Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website ( I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you strike a ball with an iron. If you are looking for how to hit a ball straight with an iron, or want to know how to hit the ball first with irons then these golf drills will give you much better golf ball contact so that you can strike your irons pure.

I believe they are the easiest and best golf irons drills you can use

Also get to see the golf ball contact in slow motion

Michael Porter says:

I've played golf for 40 years and after watching this video realized I never really knew how to properly fire the hips. I was floored with how easy it was to draw the ball and make clean contact. Great video!

Blue Planet says:

Thank you. I've been trying to work my hips into the swing and the was a perfect class on how to get the timing right

Rick Rocketts says:

This is a fine video, but my favorite part is the way Danny says “throws” at 2:32.

Pat Kilger says:

After watching Padraic H. explain hip action in the downswing I really enjoyed and benefitted from your video. I truly cannot wait to get to the course. Your insight has helped me to control my swing to the point where I now finish in a balanced position.

Glen Godwin says:

Thanks Danny, great video on hip action. Very important fundamental that is easily forgotten. Especially for us early extenders. Working on it!

T S says:

Thanks for this Danny, do you have some exercises to really get the hips opening up? I have neglected flexibility so i need to get on it now!

Rich says:

I was practicing this at the range today and got myself in a horrible mess. My hips were clearing really nicely but in the downswing they were dragging me wildly over-the-top. I don't understand how better players can get their hips so open at impact without swinging over the top. I feel like I need to go backwards and slow my hips down again to swing from the inside.

Tyson says:

Spent the last two days trying to fix my hip rotation. Just couldn't clear the left out for the way finally fixed it by pushing off the lead foot to push the hip out of the way thanks to this video

Bill Dorfman says:

Thanks Danny. Loved this video on hip turn. Struggled with hip turn all my golfing life . Went to the course after watching this video , practiced trail foot back, etc. for 10 minutes and went out and shot an 85 with an 18 handicap on a really tough course..Your simple approach seems to have changed my swing I hope for the long haul.. Superten Chung says:

Dear Danny, there is not much shallowing club video from you, would you please share your opinion about this? Some kind of artificial movement such as external rotation right elbow? Is it really helpful for good swing?

9Zhivago says:

It’s hard for me to figure out how to both get the hips out of the way WHILE also generating power with the hips. Would love some guidance on that.

Popspicker says:

Great ..Thanks Danny

mick Banks says:

This may be the exercise for me referring to using the hips.

brett coleman says:

Hey Danny, did not see the home practice guide on firing the hips through, and you help me out?

Mark Lebrecht says:

Oh man! Well done. That's the info I hoped for.

Gustav G says:

It's so easy to swing down your hands before those hips have started to turn, do you have any video concerning that?

Clint Head says:

This is the money drill!

Rajindar Singh says:

Thanks Danny, now I know its the right hip that fires

Steven Hill says:

So,where is this Wentworth Course? Local to you or just picked off of the computer? Looks fun.

kim newling says:

You are a genius

Bryan Kem says:

Good instruction on how the hips work. Thanks.

Jonathan Taylor says:

The best video I have seen on how to fire those hips. Thanks for explaining and demonstrating so well Danny.

Tim Dixon says:

I like the walking analogy.

carlos Garcia says:

Danny.. I can tell that this video along with “jam jar” video will help me fire my hips. Your instruction has help correct my inside out swing. I have started recording my swing to see if I am applying the concepts your are teaching. I have learned on to start the downswing with my legs but my hips stop moving before impact which causes a chicken wing. What can I say.. I am work in progress. I will break 90 this year. I am trying to video that will help me shorten my swing to help hopefully create better contact.

Robert Horning says:

In your last video you said you don’t fire the hips. Which one is it. Fire or not to fire? Sounds like double talk to me.

Vincent Preca says:

I try but lose the tempo how to achieve

John lee says:

Always great Thanks Danny
