Learn how to take the golf club away in the backswing. The first move in the backswing we call the golf swing takeaway. For many golfers learning to get a great backswing takeaway feeling can transform the overall look and simplicity of your golf swing.

Learning how to take the club online on the backswing can prevent unnecessary compensations (faults) such as over the top and the opening and closing of the club face.

In this weeks golf lesson you will learn how to develop the feel necessary to do it every time with your driver swing and your iron swing.

Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website ( I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumbleI’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

  1. Great instruction, exactly what I am doing wrong. Now I have the tools to fix my takeaway for both driver and irons. I can not thank you enough. I am telling all my friends about you. Thank you again so very much. Cheers.

  2. Wanna get good hit 3-4 hundred shots everyday doesn’t matter the club but alternate and that’s the dillS you need have a good one folks this isn’t a bad drill but it’s more than one thing hahaha

  3. Mr. Maude, I need to work on this drill for sure however I need additional support on what the final sequence looks like. I appreciate that we need to initiate the swing in the proper sequence but the completion of said swing appears to be a given for most. NOT for me. I need to have that vision/picture of the proper continuation at-and-POST-contact. At 69, my range of motion may be somewhat restricted but that's not an excuse for proper form. Thank you Sir!

  4. Got a lot of this takeaway down but on video I see way to much bend in my left arm.

Wondering if it’s because I’m 52? Or cuz I’m a 265 pound weightlifter lacking any flexibility? Missing something in the takeaway? Or little bit of all 3?

    Great stuff Danny!

  5. I've only watched a few of your videos Danny but been a subscriber for a while. Just watching you for minutes I can tell straight away this is a channel you will learn so much from in such a short time. I would advise anyone who is learning golf off YouTube just follow this channel for tips. To much for few different people can put you off track. Danny keep it so simple! My driver is so bad at the moment i play off 6 my last 12 rounds 10 of them have been in the 70's so I can't wait to get that sorted and give myself closer shots into the greens. My driver is literally now a weak draw that falls out the sky quick I've lost about 40 yards ? proper toeing everything but its in play. Playing again tomorrow and I will be trying some tips from this video. Last tip I picked up off you was the right hand down to the knee to get the tilt correct. Worked a treat my friend

  6. Danny I need help with my driver,

I am a beginner golfer. I get very good distance with my driver for a beginner, 180-230 yards. The problem I run into is after I strike the ball, the ball flight is straight until the very end of the flight it spins right.

I am right handed golfer using a regular flex Cobra driver. I have tried to close the club face, even over exaggerating and twisting the club face in more, and I still have the same issue.

  7. Danny your instructions are simple to follow and easy to learn. I appreciate your approach. I am actually inspired and excited to get out on the course and put into practice all that I am learning! Thank you so much!

  8. I’m sorry to call you out but this really contradicts the video of curling the dumbbell at start of swing you even indicate the club starts out on a angle blended with the turn. This makes more sense when clubs parallel then fold the right elbow as doing a curl. The other motion did feel like a loop to me. Thou I hit many good shots it was inconsistent I’ll try this instead. Thx

  9. Having watched videos from many coaches, Danny stands out as the best in my opinion. Another fantastic, simple to understand session. Thanks Danny, superb ?

  10. Thank you Danny! I am from Hong Kong, after watching your video, my driver swing has massive improvement! Thanks a lot for making such high quality content!

  11. Hey Danny, i noticed that you "stack" on the ball instead of having it positioned foward in your stance. You also dont put any pre-tilt or turn into your set up. Could explain why your setup is this way or if there are any detriments to the opposing setups?
