The Best Downswing Drill

One of the most frustrating things I see as a coach is the number of golfers who try to power the downswing with a sharp jerking motion to start the downswing thinking this is how they hit it harder.

So in this video I look at what can happen when you make this type of movement and give you the best drill to practice and help improve your transition from backswing into the downswing and improve the quality of your ball striking too.

  1. Ged…in your 5-year old downswing video you said a golfer should think about turning his left shoulder. Now you noted that one should turn their hips? I'm confused – should I think about the left shoulder, hips or trunk? Help!!! Thanks.

  2. Yo Ged! Just came back from vacation and went onto your website and WOW!!!! a brand new format and listing of videos. Great job!!!

Question…you mentioned earlier in your 5-year old downswing video that a golfer should think about turning the left shoulder. Now you noted that a golfer should turn their hips. I'm a little confused as there are so many golf thoughts one can have. Turn with left shoulder? Turn with hips? Turn with trunk? Help!!! Thanks.

  3. I am a player of golf and even when I happen to be at it for 20 years, I still had difficulty exceeding Ninety. I wasn`t able to attain an outstanding round for the last 3-4 years until I finished reading these golf swing strategies “Jοmtοnο Naha” (Google it). My irons are not that good. My drive doesn’t get to a great range but I am able to correctly hold my driver with no issue. .

  4. I acquired these golf swing strategies “Jοmtοnο Naha” (Google it), read it in a single night, and the next day at the driving range put it into practice. I was instantly taking right divots with my irons, appropriately after solid impact. I was hitting about ten to fifteen yards farther with my irons than I was accustomed to. Try it out yourself!. .

  5. I acquired these golf swing techniques “Jοmtοnο Naha” (Google it), read it in 1 evening, and the next day at the driving range applied it. I was immediately taking correct divots with my irons, appropriately after strong impact. I attained ten to fifteen yards more range than the normal distance I have with my irons. 6. Hi Ged. Had a lesson with you at Trafford GC which helped my one plane swing a great deal. Should be grateful for any swing thoughts to strike a balance between what I would call a structured swing but is also relaxed enough to get a fluid movement. Regards, Mike Davey
