In this video we the Rapsodo MLM2PRO launch monitor to the test on the driving range to see how accurately it performs outdoors.

We'll be using driving range balls for this test, as we compare the MLM2PRO accuracy against the foresight GC3 in the areas of ball speed, launch angle, carry distance, and launch direction.

Have you ever sent anyone downrange with a range finder to check the true accuracy of carry and total distance? My Rapsodo is significantly increasing the displayed distance over the actual distance using a range finder. This needs to be tested on a relatively flat surface. This test would be more of an absolute.

@Doggieman1111 says:

Awesome, this is exactly what I was looking for

@TheZambie1 says:

I ordered an R50 yesterday and I'm sort of regretting it already! I will be getting this MLM2PRO also since its so inexpensive so compare and take advantage of the rear view at impact. Great stuff guys, Thanks!

@andrewhorochovic8781 says:

The math at 9:06 should be .83 difference instead of .23. The – (meaning left) is throwing off your calculation by offsetting the first 2 shots

@BadTomzi says:

You should never looks at the spinn on range balls anyways so this is amazing.

@gatorwhiskers9011 says:

all radar based systems either require a special ball or dot stickers, or they calculate(approximate) spin based on the other conditions.
The only monitors that will measure spin on normal golf balls are optical based, which are a completely different price range

@colexfnm says:

Spin stats don’t matter since most range balls drop drastically in spin rate anyways. It’s more accurate the closer you get to driver but you can see good/spinny flight easier.

@miinyyo4178 says:

Finally!!! The last video and reason why the rapsodo is worth it. Christmas money going towards that 🙂

@onesipwonder says:

I never was able to connect my MLm 2 with my phone or iPad anywhere outside. It won’t work with my hotspot or something.

@andrewc5202 says:

How accurate do these read club head speed in comparison to the memo plus? There’s no way this guy was swinging his seven iron at 94 mph.

@TimChump says:

Does not rapsodo use radar to track the ball all the way in the range?

@randyhill155 says:

Your test was with "white" balls. Does the results change if you use "yellow" balls?

@WolfgangFrontzek says:

Does the Rapsodo also measure AoA? Would be for me an important factor for proper driving

@jcharais says:

Had my MLM2pro for about a year now and its great. If you can live without angle of attack, face to path and swing path, this thing is great. To get those 3 additional specs you need about spend several thousands of dollars more.

@tneswick2 says:

I have had no luck with mine, wildly inaccurate distances. often 15-20yards short than real

@nickfelfoldi8648 says:

Can the device be used for speed training i.e. without hitting a golf ball?

@ppierpont says:

Does either device (or the Mevo+) have a setting for using poor quality “range” balls? Like a way to apply an algorithm that accounts for the difference in ball. Or if you want to see accurate distances for your clubs, do you have to be indoors with top quality balls (like Titleist RCT or Callaway RCP)?

@markolson342 says:

Great test!! Just what we wanted to see. Spin is not that big of a deal outside.

@k1ngl3bron6 says:

Pretty crazy its so accurate with no spin numbers

@jacklabrador6981 says:

Can this unit be connected to a large screen TV instead of having to purchase a projector and screen?
Also, this unit REQUIRES the use of a laptop or phone, correct?
Is an internet/ wifi connection required in the range or golf course simulation mode?
Can multiple players have a profile on the same unit, and how does that work?

Well done fellas, love the channel. I just subscribed too!!

@larrybud says:

Here's how these machines work: The machine has built-in spin values for the club which is selected. "Average" spin values. That's why you have to select the club used in the MLM.

So if the player has spin numbers for his shot which are close to what is preprogrammed into the machine, then you'll get calculated distances which are close to accurate. If your own shots aren't close to what is preprogrammed, then distance will be off. But there's no way to know without comparing it to something. Throw in a couple of other players in there and you'll get varying results. Get a player who is super spinny with the driver for example, and it won't be close. There's a reason they have special balls so that spin is measured. If spin wasn't important, then you wouldn't need it.

Is 4 yards good enough for a 7 iron? That will be up to you, but that's almost half a club. Is that good enough for gapping?

Side note that ball speed is easy to measure accurately. I have an old radar unit (probably 15 years old) that I put up against a trackman and ball speed was within +/-1 mph on the same shots.

One other final comment: You went through the whole testing procedure and only hit 3 balls… I don't understand that. Hit 20 balls for each club and you'll know how many outliers are typical.

@jeffe6540 says:

I know they say range balls are slightly limited flight. Are the yardages given range ball distance or calculated distance with a good ball based off ball speed and launch? Thanks!!!

@thedayhayfilms says:

Can you guys try testing the accuracy in a covered outdoor setup? I don’t think it works well with long irons in a covered area

@ChurroWaffles says:

What’s up with all these golf youtube channels with high-end production and barely squeezing 100k subs? I for sure thought with this much production value in the vid this channel would have like 500k subs.

@Fipsi73 says:

Guys, great analysis! Outdoors – which is my use case – would you go for the Garmin R10 or the MLM or a different (similar price range)?
