I test the new Titleist TSR driver to discover the truth… is it ACTUALLY any better than the previous TSi and TS models? This hands-on review and driver comparison was carried out over several weeks in a number of different locations, and is based on the numbers measured from Foresight tech and my own experiences gaming the three drivers on the course.

Pete, please repeat this now with the GT3 in the lineup 🙂
Wow, it's almost as if there was a regulation in place restricing performance and they were all built to meet that some number….
I couldn’t tell the difference between I or the R. So I waited to buy an I in my spec for way way less.
My TS4 head finally broke. I was looking for a replacement, and I think I will go with a used TSI4. Its a little cheaper.
Late to the party but tested the TSR3 today and put an order in for it, and surprisingly my current club is the TSi3.
I 100% agree with your review, middled hits saw literally no difference, im a 6hc player that has some pretty random strike patterns sometimes which drop my drives from an average of 260 yards carry to as low as 240 and below. I was able to replicate those off centre hits in testing with both the TSi3 and the TSR3 and found that the TSR3 definitely kept up better with middled hits. Ave middle hit for me with 102mph swing speed is 261 yards with both clubs (within 1 yards deviation), average off centre was 242 with TSi and 256 with TSR. Of course i cant 100% replicate exact hits but none of my off centre hits with the TSR dropped below 250.
Mate – you don't swing 124. Rory might – you don't. I wish you guys would stop pretending. If you are only getting 1.41 smash out of these heads, you have swing issues too. Be honest – get trackman numbers and just be honest please. Truth is in the title but not in the review. You are not a tour-level athlete. I wish you youtube / Trafford golf range guys would just stop with all this BS
Thanks Pete. Really enjoyed the video. I went for a driver fitting at Titleist and found TSR3 to be amazing. Extremely fast and forgiving – you confirmed it. Do you think the TSI3 is also forgiving? Not sure if you have already done heel strike test with the TSI3 as well. thanks again.
Can anyone give me some clarity I’m looking at buying myself a titlesit driver second hand as to not break the bank of course! 18 handicapper hit it reasonably well I mean am I pretty safe to go for the old ts3!? It seems like it still stacks up well and would be a good bang for my buck
I remember back when Pete was hitting the 915 350 yards. Titleist is where it's at
What happened to the part of the video where you play the course with the 3 different generations? Did I miss something. I saw where you said they were all very similar but I wanted to see actually see them out on the course in a head to head to head comparison. I just don’t care, nothing proves facts, regardless of sophistication, like actually getting and seeing the physical data out for testing. That video had me packing half a pack of tums.
I love watching the club fittings; I especially live to watch and nerd out on all the specific things they do at Titleist to find and make one club capable of hundreds of thousands of clubs in one.
So, please don’t deny us the test videos. I’ve seen a lot of guys like yourself whom possess the ability to bomb the ball with high club head speeds but struggle with low spin numbers and now they are giving guys like you shafts with higher 10* lofts, HZRDOUS BLACK 6.5 XSTIFF but with 60gram and lower shafts. Not only that but pulling weight out of the head itself.
With my height 6’5 almost 6’6 I have almost 2” longer clubs all the way around in some of my sets. I am kind of a mad scientist when it comes to building club sets. I currently have a 2” longer ts3 driver, tsi3 3 wood &, tsi2 wood. I also have a standard length tsi3 3 wood and tsi3 driver. The ts3 with xstiff 60gram tensei, 2” longer is 50 yards longer than the tsi3 standard length 75g stiff tensei shaft. I am looking at the tsR3 driver but haven’t made my mind up to pull the trigger yet. So far, the tsr2 & tsR3 seem to be outstanding clubs and would be excellent additions. I just upgraded my irons this past summer to Titleist t100s 3-pw but I’m looking at getting new shafts. I only have regular AMT WHITE shafts and I’m thinking dynamic gold s400 shafts for the replacements. Any thoughts. My previous irons were mizuno mp20 mmc’s with custom 2” lengthened shafts ACCRA Iseries steel-125i shafts. Those were a real upgrade over my mizuno mp32’s I had 2-gw. But I got too good of a price in the Titleist t100s not to jump on them and then custom fit/build them to my personal spec.
The biggest leap was definitely between the 900 series and the TS. No reason at all to go with the TSi or TSR. If you went all TS with your metals you'd literally be saving HUNDREDS.
I let my friend’s 22 year old son hit my TS3. He skied it and left a irritating scratch on the upper face/crown.
In my 45 years of golfing this was my favorite driver long (enough,) forgiving (enough,) and I hardly missed a fairway. Just so confidence inspiring at address.
At 67, I was recording 112 carrying 270+ with a Diamana DF 60S shaft.
68, almost died from pneumonia.
Today at 69 I can barely get 100 mph carrying 220-240. I try not to get excited about new drivers promising more distance anymore but a 6S shaft may be too much for me now.
And that ugly scratch- luckily my old eyes blur the hideousness.
Tour AD UB 50S is the shaft I decided on.
Now watching your testing it seems the old TS is holding up well against the TSR and I really loved the head of the TS3.
So I’m gonna save some money and get a pristine used TS3 for ¥30,000 with a DI5S and save against a new TSR3 with UB5S for ¥90,000. (£180, £540)
I just hope my swing speed would reflect similar results. You really got you speed up there, Pete.
Sorry I just dont believe those numbers…
Looks, feel and sound can definitely influence goe well you hit it. If you like all these things, confidence will be high.
Ts3 is my driver and capable of generating huge ball speed and distance. Will never switch.
The Ts is still my baby
Thanks for this review Peter. Playing the TS3 for a couple years you just saved me a couple hundred euro by buying a TSR. ????
No way in hell does the ts3 feel better than the tsr3!! The tsr3 is the best sounding and feeling driver I have ever hit! The ts3 doesn't sound or feel bad, but it is not in the same league as the tsr. Just goes to show how subjective sound and feel really is. I mean hell, some people actually like the sound of ping drivers!
Great video, and confirms a lot of what many of the 'not needing the latest and greatest' often feel. People also seem to forget that once some of the modern indoor launch monitors see that initial snapshot of what's happening to the ball…spin, launch, axis, speed etc, it then calculates and simulates what it believes would be the expected outcome. So if the performance numbers are pretty darned much the same, then the outcome it's using to calculate and simulate results in the pretty much the same statistics. As sweetspots on clubs have got bigger and bigger since the old 2003 Cobra SS and SZ 'claimed 9 sweet spots, or sweet zones', then the balls behaviour across the face has also been more consistent and so has the resultant outcome on the LM. It will never be perfect, but neither will the average player and hence we're now at a position where looks, sound, visual shape are the performance placebo to the mind of those easily led towards owning the latest and greatest, which is actually very much the same. Great video….
124mph SS but only 174 ball is low isn’t it
You’re one of the few legit guys on YouTube and not the full of crap reviewers who seem to always hit the newer model longer every year.
Would love to see the same comparison, but done for the TS2 and TS4 model!!! Cheers!
Can anyone (that’s bought a tsr tell me where the vin number is?!) I have tsi line up (driver 3/5 wood and a 2 hybrid I switch depending upon courses I play) I love them (these new clubs would have to blow me away to buy one)
Comparison numbers to your Cobra gamer?
Pete, how can you be getting 120+ swing speeds and not even getting near 180 ball speed?
Very good test
