In this lesson of the series on helping every golfer achieve a single-figure handicap, I now move on to speed in your swing, which is important to maintain and ideally increase. Here, I discuss the importance of using a monitor to measure your swing speed and your progress over time, whilst I provide a number of techniques and practice routines to experiment with on the range.

thank you so much, was in the basement with my golf and you got me going the right way

Evolution ????????

@wilsonhung8654 says:

I have stopped hiring local instructors ever since Paddy started his Youtube channel. All the better and much more relevant knowledge about swing development, chipping, putting, physio, and strategy — while saving tons of tuition. Is this a real free lunch or what.

@Jarhead0331 says:

Watching Paddy’s golf tips my handicap is now a 13.4…………………. It was an 11 before I started ????. Not his fault

@davidscott6102 says:

I know it's a lot to ask paddy but from 8- to scratch would be class ????????

@merkeva1841 says:

its proven that higher swing speed = lower handicap

@mattbrown4437 says:

How's this guy! Saying, let me show you how a beginner tops the ball and then swinging at probably 110 and topping is 7 cm. What a master of his trade.

@pmportella says:

in 6 weeks i went from 21 to 17.9 handicap, and its consistent! keep these coming

@timshears2099 says:

I am low single figures and swing at 85 on the course. If I could do 120 I would go to Q school!

@MikeGolfsOregon says:

Which magazine do you recommend hitting for someone with 110'ish swing speed?

@pbode1 says:

Can't wait for the face control episode. Worked on my driver speed a bit but no control of the face yet at 100 mph compared to my standard 93. Agree totally on the monitor. Creative magazine drill!

@anandshah71 says:

What’s the cheapest speed and distance monitor

@The-OC says:

Lol if I had a spare £250, I'd be buying a course of lessons, not a monitor, in truth so many people are struggling to pay the monthly bills and afford 1 round a week, so I can't see many folks just popping out and buying a monitor. ????

@paulturner4419 says:

I swing around 100mph and play off 8 and believe me you do have to worry about dispersion.

@danielhedeback6257 says:

You are simply brilliant Paddy!

@sharkweek5579 says:

what a video, especially the last tip of getting hands in front of impact "driving the ball" almost like a cricket shot. It has been a big drama for me leaving the face open because of it, get pushing shots right with irons but big annoying slices with driver. Thanks heaps Paddy, i look forward to getting into the sim with the launch monitor.

@robdonaldson449 says:

Hi Paddy, Please give some info of the "monitor" Slan

@dakinkajou says:

Paddy thanks for always giving solid advice! Keep making these please ????

@vivekbhandari3862 says:

When I was a kid, I used to swing it hard and fast and funnily enough the ball
Would go long and straight !! Then I ran into golf coaches who would say resist the hips on the way bk and clear the hips on the way thru. It would never work and I can only thank Paddy for confirming what I thought was true all along. We should all
Strive for Effortless Power rather than Powerful Effort !!

@michaelmosley384 says:

Paddy doing away with the decades old “swing at 80%” culture in one lesson. Love it.

@stevep927 says:

What is the name of the device he is using ?

@joeymahan6316 says:

Thanks Paddy, great stuff! It's amazing how fast you can swing it.

@g_nw says:

pure as the driven snow, we don’t deserve this

@PapaHoleNUrHead says:

Thank you for this! My kids got me a launch monitor for Father's Day and I've been using it for my swing speed. So far my personal best is 106mph. I really appreciated hearing you say to experiment to see what makes your swing faster.

@mahpat says:

Paddy you are the best. I love this no nonsense practical approach. It has to be athletic too many of us are stuck looking at hitting positions.This is good stuff. Thank You.

@joeidaho5938 says:

I think a golfer always has to learning more about swing technique…..and putting it into practice, Self-assessment is a key part of that…and many just don't think in a methodical analytical way. The finesse of chipping and putting….is really in the endgame, in my opinion…..after you've eliminated the vast majority of tee and fairway frustration.

@Gigity1107 says:

Do you find the PRGR records slower swing speeds when you're swinging without the ball? I find I'm about 8mph slower for some reason.
