Beginner to Winner | Episode 1: Lee’s First Ever Round of Golf

Oz finds a complete beginner—Lee—who’s never played a round of golf and has only ever hit balls at the driving range. We take him to The Downes Crediton to play his very first 9 holes, with no coaching, no tips, and no idea what to expect. Just raw talent (kind of)!

This is our baseline.

Over the next 6 weeks, Lee will train with PGA Pro Mike Hawton at Undercover Golfer—learning the basics, fixing bad habits, and building a game from scratch.

Then it’s back to The Downes for a rematch… Can Lee beat his original score?

Welcome to the Beginner to Winner series.

Just did my first time on a golf course today, only did 9 holes. First hole was par 3, first shot was a 172 yard hit with a 7 iron landed 2 yards from the hole, what a rush that was. I came off that hole thinking wow this is easy. Was quickly humbled when it took me 9 shots to do the next par 4 hole and sliced the first drive onto the bunker on the next fairway over🤣🤣

@BlotterEffect says:

Played my 1st game Friday just gone. Come away with 75 on a par 33 course. Hoping to improve 😄

@mikeh2613 says:

A brilliant idea to do this! Very brave of Lee and I really hope he does not get despondent. We’ve all been here if we’re honest but just that one superb golf shot (how we managed it we never know) brings us back again & again.

@laurieblows says:

great effort for first round, respect for doing that on youtube, keep it up, its a hard game but had some nice swings going there

@benpirt2534 says:

Tough gig to have the first round filmed. Think it was ten rounds before I lost nerves in the tee box and the feeling of anxiety over the ball. Keep plugging and it’s amazing how quickly it comes. Keep the big stick in the bag and use those irons to stop those hideous OB shots. Great effort!

@JussiJuutalainen says:

I played my second round last week and got two par's. It got to my head bad 🤣

@John-2521 says:

he plays like me! look forward to the round after lessons

@rickeidam3287 says:

Well done for sticking with it Lee, we all had to start this great game at some stage but to do it while being filmed for all the world to see, wow, great respect to you my friend, the tee shot on the 2nd hole is intimidating as I know to my cost, smash it when you come back I'm looking forward to it.

@letshaveago.169 says:

A few lessons, ball position is your stance, don't try to hit the ball too hard. Let the club do the work.

@mikephillips4155 says:

It takes bottle to go on camera for a first time ! ….Keep the faith and just enjoy the journey. You will be vastly improved after coaching. one schizophrenic game you've chosen mate .

@Creepa0121 says:

Great idea for a video lads fair play to lee for doing this as well takes balls to do this on camera and then putting it on youtube 👍🏻 👏🏻

@Kitzishot says:

I took 5 lessons before going out and shot a 130+. I then began to build my club set around the most forgiving ones which were alright but in the forgiving class not really. Then I found the 11 wood and boom. It is still my go to club to get me out of any bad situation and in most cases I can put it on the green from 120 to 150 yards out. I'm now a 1 year 2 month player in a place where we get around 7 months of a season with a 24 handicap that seems to be decreasing 1 point every week. Hitting mid to low 90's now.

@michaelblack2334 says:

Be great to see how he makes out after lessons. I had a different approach to golf 25 years ago. I spent 6 months at the driving range before putting one foot on the golf course. first round, 18 holes score 102. Plenty more driving range sessions and playing. Never been over 100 again and playing 2 times, some times 3 times per week. I hope he enjoys it like I do.

@joshrodriguez9822 says:

Just went to a driving range for the first time today and have to say it was a massive blow to my ego. This makes me feel better considering my performance was comparable to that of Lee's. Pretty much used a 4 iron the whole time and had a maximum distance of 141yd, no idea how good/bad that is

@JordanZaszlos says:

I took up golf 2 years n played my last round 2 weeks ago n giving it up as a bad job i just haven't got the temperament for it i was shooting very low 100's to high 90's over 18 hole's but just dont seem to be improving n getting really frustrated with the game i may go back to it but taking a very long break from it

@GeoffWinstanley-tg3zy says:

Good luck mate relax & just enjoy your self you will get there , it’s a hard game

@Golfingmadness18 says:

Go on Lee, i guarantee you your next round will be atleast 5 shots less & so on 😊

@jamesbajcar1689 says:

Brutal making him count his "practice swing" lol

@nexxd says:

I’ve just started to learn myself so great to watch someone else’s progression.

@chenzocosimo3250 says:

Ok. Turning it off. I didn’t think it was phony until the putting.

@harveypcm says:

I couldnt watch that… painful
