Discover why your driver swing is costing you distance — and the two simple golf swing patterns that fix it with almost no practice required. No complicated golf swing thoughts, no hours on the range.

If you've ever watched your playing partner effortlessly hit driver longer than you despite seemingly less effort, this golf swing lesson is going to explain exactly why that happens. It's not strength. It's not fitness. It's pattern — and once you understand how your golf swing should actually work, adding distance off the tee becomes surprisingly straightforward.

In this lesson I work through exactly what I did with my student Monty, who was convinced he was losing distance because of his age. Within 30 minutes of changing his golf swing pattern he had added 15 to 20 yards — with no extra effort at all. If you want to hit driver further and stop losing distance, this is where to start.

What you'll learn in this driver swing lesson:

▶ Why your golf swing is working against you and robbing you of distance
▶ The opposition pattern that helps you hit driver longer immediately
▶ How to add yards to your drive without swinging harder
▶ The body rotation drill that gives you effortless golf swing power
▶ Why this works especially well as a golf swing for seniors losing distance
▶ How to practise these golf swing drills at home with no equipment

⏱️ CHAPTERS

0:00 — Why some golfers hit driver effortlessly and you can't
1:22 — The pattern that robs you of driver distance
2:05 — The opposition golf swing pattern explained
4:25 — The trail foot drill to feel effortless power
8:09 — Adding rotation — the golf swing body drill
10:13 — Combining both patterns to hit driver longer
12:18 — How to build this into your golf swing on the course

This driver swing lesson works for all levels — whether you're a club golfer frustrated with lack of distance off the tee, a senior golfer who feels like they're losing distance every year, or someone who simply wants to hit the golf ball further without working harder. If you've tried swing tips that promise more distance but never deliver, this pattern-based approach to your golf swing is completely different. Your body already knows how to generate power — it just needs the right pattern to release it.

Here's this weeks practice plan, take it to the range or course: https://www.dannymaude.com/easy-driver-swing-almost-no-practice

@dongshengzhang4105 says:

Agree he is a good coach. However I always think he could have used half of the time to demo the same stuff

@mikerodrick2430 says:

Hi Danny; I must say this is one of the best demonstrations of the driver swing I've seen. I'm usually too flat & rotate rather than push up which gives me a low ball flight. It looks more like a stinger fairway finder than a driver swing. A lot of roll but not enough carry. I'm not swinging as I swing an iron but not really up like a driver should be. This should help a lot. Thanks for this!

@strypergolf says:

Danny … how, is it, week after week, that you know what my swing fault is at present?

@garyfautley9843 says:

This is me every week

@CalumNolan_ says:

Might sound crazy but the only way I can have a good tee shot is have 0 thoughts, range I’ll just think ‘exit left’ and it goes great, in course I have 10 thoughts positions etc, once I set up my aim and let the body takeover it just works

@russellowen4670 says:

Best coach in golf by a country mile

@indianajim says:

It's funny, that drill almost perfectly resembles how Scottie's trail foot escapes behind him.

@dreid4760 says:

Why is this so different from your recent videos on drop the arms to the right knee and firing the hips?

@LarryCrosby-k9b says:

Danny, excellent video! Thanks for explaining the mechanics of the swing in a way that really makes sense!

@ericgarcia7567 says:

What’s up, Danny? Eric from Hawaii. Been watching your videos and I learned a lot. You made me a better golfer. I really appreciate the videos, 🤙🏾🤙🏾

@thomaswalgraffe says:

Danny, you are a genius! I was always thinking about rotating. Never about “jumping” to bring the arms down. This is it.

@bassmasta9117 says:

Hi Danny, do you associate any part of your hand/hands as the club face throughout the swing? I do it with putting and chipping but not sure about full swings.

@ArgentTIc says:

Hey Danny thank you for the amazing video would you ever consider doing a video for people with an excessive in to out path? Been struggling a lot with this recently

@gregknowsbest says:

Isn’t that early extension?

@wraithconscience says:

Brilliant !!! Again !!!

@robertfudge985 says:

The "swing the bucket" drill you showed last week (using what looked like a bowling ball bag) is perfect for developing this feel, as well.

@petersinclair3946 says:

Not much is ever said about the position of the right arm on impact( for a right hander). I find i get a crisper contact if the right arm is straight when contacting the ball, a feelin g that the elbow is straightened out and i’m hitting down on the ball. Can you discuss this in one of your videos please

@pierreduroux6667 says:

Great vidéo ; I found that for opposite role of body and the arms the role of left arm at the end of BS is essential ; idem the right arm at the end of DS ( for right dominant ) Do you agrée ?

@stevennoel6724 says:

Danny the magnificent, Fab post, i am going blast it tomorrow!….hopefully

@numaanmohamood5895 says:

I dont know anymore…I watch these videos but my golf gets worse

@andrewcoulter323 says:

still hitting fat and thin shots I don't think this tip is for me… I need to stay more still….

@robertwatkins-k5p says:

i used to be "THAT" golfer. Very analytical. Then it dawned on me….the object is to hit the ball, not positions. To that end, if you're practicing a lot with foam balls at home……you've got to get away from it You need the feel of compressing a golf ball to achieve the effortless swing. Set up a rebound board and hit chip shots.

@henrysalvo3228 says:

Great video. When you start your downswing are you firing your hands or turning your shoulders. And, which should first, left (front) or right. Thanks.

@keitholiver4076 says:

As ever great video very easy to understand 👍

@vicpnut1 says:

Didnt catch if you mention in this …and maybe its just me,but, once i started following this (your) method /ideas about “firing the arms …” i struggled…i struggled until i remembered to remain tension free(well try to)… the distance increased by leaps ..at first tension ,trying to guide the clubhead some, would make my aim even worse ..but my distance on solid strikes was miles further,just it could go anywhere lol…so if i remind myself to not think of anything beyond the swing motion and turning down my wrists / forearms it starts coming together ..essentially i got rid of trying to muscle it through which would lock my hands too much (in open position) creating an occasional boomerang slice or 45* angle shot to the left that would end up in a parallel fairway 😂… still incorporating this but feel it necessary to reiterate the need to keep tension to a minimum

@liochang says:

You’ve got a great way of teaching. I’ve learned a ton from your videos. Being new without a coach is difficult, but you’ve made it much easier. Thank you for all that you’ve taught me. Hopefully one day I’ll get decent enough to take some lessons from you in person.

@fatherratgmail says:

Danny! I've been working with your drills to have a repeatable, stable arc and it was working. This video was the missing piece for easy power! 20 yards on average increase after a 30 minute indoor practice session! Holy cow! In the northeast USA we're waiting for the snow to clear! With correct positioning, it works for fairway, hybrid, and irons, too! Can you do an iron video of this same content? The videos always help in perfecting the practice.
