Very insightful….
You just waffled very basic nonsense for a minute and said it like you were being profound????
"Some budget clubs are good, some aren't..well known brands are a safer bet"
Geeee..I never would have guessed.

I got a set of cobra fly xl for my first set ,about £600 ,decent enough for a beginner i think

@fatneek1 says:

rick should buy game improvement irons

Day 35 of asking for a golf set

@jeffrielly says:

…what about the direct to consumer brands, like Bombtech, Lazrus, or Thomas?

@sarcasticmaniac628 says:

I got clubs from target for Father’s Day ,and I got a 3 wood that has served me well for years. It’s just light out on par3s. I be tried to replace it, but the cougar is the club.

@joninglis5815 says:

I just got a set of Nike Vapor speed irons for $600, they've hardly been hit. Now if only I could hit them lol

@Cloudstrife112233 says:

I currently play with an OLD set of Wilson Staff's, pretty much anything is an upgrade for me, lol…. that said, I do play my old Wilson's pretty well, they're just wearing out and need to be replaced. I've been finding older (late 90s to early 00s) Titleist sets for very reasonable prices and am considering getting a set of those.

@brady1802 says:

Rick what’s your opinion on the Wilson XC31 package set and could you do a video on them? They seem to be very popular for new golfers would like to see your view on them????????

@Riley_Mundt says:

And then there's me, using a 17 year old budget set.

@Marcmount_golf says:

I started off with a starter set and gradually upgrading my bag last thing I need is some irons but tbh the budget irons ain’t terrible right now. So I set a goal to beat 80 before I buy new irons.

@semajniffirg230 says:

buy last years models

@derekbarb7972 says:

Look into Sub70 mate. Nothing budget at all they replaced my zx7s in a heartbeat. The TA3 irons and 659 cb/tc irons are phenomenal

@formulaic78 says:

Yes, you should, if you have a handicap over 10. Most people on the course would play just the same with budget clubs or the expensive ones that make them feel more high status. Only those with great technique will truly benefit from more expensive clubs. I know this because I went from using my friend's fake Callaways (I live in Asia) to spending a thousand pounds on real Callaways. The clubs did not help me at all and I realised what I really needed to spend that 1000 pounds on was lessons. Only problem is in Asia it's 150 quid a lesson and I've got no money left.

@dantheman991million says:

The clubs haven't really changed much anyways over the past 3 to 5 years to be honest.

@johno4488 says:

I have had decent results from eBay. Just picked up a brand new set of Wilson Launchpads retail 699, I picked them up for 350 + S/H. Just have to be patient and make sure the Customer Satisfaction rating is near 100%

@kenpowers3206 says:

I buy used and make sure the shafts are correct and have the lies and lofts ajusted to my swing.. very simple..

@User46677 says:

Don’t need expensive clubs. If your a great player, they will be able to play with anything

@jessalanfields says:

Rick, you need a screen on your mic to catch the plosives.

@altontowersquad says:

Thank you for the signature

@dustywinkler1708 says:

I'd love to hear your thoughts on clones. Lazrus, Pinemeadow, Gigagolf, etc… Keep hearing they're just using tech from 2-3 years ago, but you get it in a new club that can (typically) be customized.

@flyingemu36 says:

I prefer 2nd hand – the hippie part of me thinks of it as less waste and landfill as someone else is giving them some love.

@loikepalenikonu5489 says:

When i started golfing i bought used clubs knowing they would be replaced and only new club in the bag was the putter. The other 10 all used and everything was was less than $500.

My current bag cost a little more than $1700 which I slowly pieced together, but if i bought all 14 clubs brand new when they were released it would be about $3k.

@garrinperrin4701 says:

Serious question I wanna work on my irons and wedges, is it better to hit a actual range or would vitual be just as good?

@dmatt2284 says:

I got back into the game few months back.Got a set of Callaway X Series irons
5-Sw, Ping G410 4 iron, Maverick 3 Hybrid,Used Vokey wedges,Epic Speed 3W,Odessey Putter,and an Epic GBB Driver.Very happy with my decision to buy used.Once I get little more money saved up I’m going to sell the X series irons and upgrade to a newer used set of either Apex Irons or Taylormade Stealth Irons.Right now we need to worry about ball striking lol

@chroniccomplainer3792 says:

When i got my clubs a few years ago i got some slightly used tommy armour 845s irons. Then over the years accumulated a new driver, a few wedges i like, and 2 wood/hybrids. Might upgrade the irons now but still like them tbh

@drgrzz says:

Old clubs. For a beginner today.

Drive and woods Callaway Warbird can be found cheap.

Ping eye 2 for irons.

Can be found and they would be cheap. Only thing would be they’d need a regrip.

@Inked_Kev says:

You can’t buy skill, find something that suits you well and try to improve your game not only your set. I really like Mr. Shiels point of view and I would also recommend a second hand set over those beginner or premade sets, even though they are higher quality now a days.

@kenbrown2808 says:

as long as you can differentiate between a budget set and a cheap set… let's make the opposite question – should a beginner golfer start by having a full fitting?

@dmkfactor1721 says:

I like buying clubs still new a year or two old on discount sites! I bought a TM M6 last year for 129 still in the wrapper!
