Rick Shiels Senior PGA Golf Coach at Trafford Golf Centre helps explain what the left arm does during the golf swing and if it should stay straight or not. Use this simple golf tip to improve your golf and help you play the best golf you can.
Thanks Rick. I’m a lefty new boy, learning as I hit balls by how well they
go. The last couple of visits to the range I have experimented with stiff
arms and different back angles. Stiff arms makes for a cleaner hit, it
seems. Also, playing around with balance between heels and toes seems to
make a huge difference. Amazing game; wish I’d discovered it before I hit
60!
A lot of the time, the left arm bends because the right arm bends too much.
Try to keep hands as far away as possible from the right ear which should
stop the right arm bending too much which in turn will keep the left arm
straight. Well, that’s my two pennies worth 🙂
Great video Rick as always, love watching them.
Helpful, thanks. Always wondered about that left arm.
Great video Rick. Thank you. I have always heard about keeping the left arm
straight and it’s always something I have worked on since I started playing
about 13 years ago or so. I never thought about it being more important
keeping the left arm straight through the downswing and follow through. I
don’t keep my left arm perfectly straight on the backswing, and I don’t
have the flexibility I used to have in the shoulder turn.
as always thanks!
Nice video mate keep the videos coming
Rick, won’t lifting the left heel on the backswing increase your turn back?

Thanks for a rational prospective. Trying to keep the left arm straight
often leads to stiff, tight vs. loose arms. That is a power drain.
